How to be a responsible user of financial services?
On Tuesday, 04 December 2018, the respresentative of the Institution of Ombudsman for the Banking System of Federation BiH, Lejla Smajović, in the premises of Center for education and research „Nahla“ held a free workshop titled as “Rights and obligations of the financial institutions towards the clients”.
The workshop is result of cooperation with the institution of the Ombudsman for the banking system of Federation BiH and the project „Microfinance in BiH“ implemented by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), member of the World Bank Group and supported by the Embassy of Switzerland in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is intended to everyone having the need to learn on fundamentals of financial institutions work, their obligations towards the clients, certain risks in using financial services and obligations to provide protection of users rights.
The lecturer at the workshop was Lejla Smajović, the Ombudsman for the banking system of Federation BiH with the Banking Agency of the FBiH, lawyer by education with years of experience in the financial sector. Through an interesting interaction with those present, she referred on practical examples which is facing through the ombudsman work, and specified some rights and obligations stemming from the use of financial products and services with physical persons.
„Through these workshops, my wish is to introduce as close as possible the Law on protection of users of financial services in the Federation of BiH to those present here and how it functions in practice. This was the opportunity to clarify the provisions which relate to possibility of contract termination, mechanisms for protection of rights and to make recommendations what have to pay attention to when concluding contracts, taking into account the characteristic of certain products and services, and how selection may affect the cost price of product or service”, Smajović explained.
During the workshop printed materials were distributed which provide clear guidelines how you may become a responsible user of the financial services. In the following period it is planned to organise similar workshops in other cities of the Federation BiH.
