Financial education of young people through the lectures organized in schools and faculties
The Office of the Ombudsman for the banking system which operates within the Banking Agency of the Federation of BiH (FBA) contributed to the celebration of the European Money Week, by the activities organized in the period from 25.03- 29.03.2019, and with the support of the project "Microfinance in BiH" implemented by the IFC, a member of the World Bank Group and supported by the Swiss Embassy in BiH.
By continuation of its financial-educational practice, Ombudsman for the banking system, Lejla Smajović, organized a series of lectures for high school students from the Third Gymnasium Sarajevo and Secondary School "Ivan Goran Kovačić" from Kiseljak and students of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Sarajevo. With the objective to raise the knowledge on the financial literacy of the young people, the lectures were focused on the key financial concepts and the practical knowledge, by providing information needed for quality self-management of personal finances.
"We work on the promotion of the applicable financial knowledge and as a part of this education presenting the Law on Protection of Users of Financial Services in the Federation of BiH and how it works in practice”, explained Ombudsman Lejla Smajović.
"Through the current practices in the work of the Ombudsman for the banking system within the FBA, by education of young people I use to explain the mechanisms for protection of the rights of the users and indicate to the specific characteristics of certain financial products and services, therefore the acquired knowledge will have a great impact on development of their future financial decisions," she stressed after this lecture.
At the end of the lecture, Helena Gajić, a student of the second year of the Faculty of Economics Sarajevo, emphasized the importance of financial education and the value of acquired knowledge about certain laws, rights and regulations in the field of banking. "I was not familiar with the most of it. In a case of some future borrowing, I will use all of the privileges I have as a client. On the other side, if I act one day as a service provider , I will be careful and do my best to make my clients satisfied as much as possible" she concluded.
Financial education of young people will be continued in the following months in the schools and faculties throughout the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
